Introduction

ConnectX ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.

ConnectX is a context-aware contact exchange app that enables users to share professional profiles via QR codes with real-time bilateral approval and automatic context capture.

Information We Collect

1. Profile Information

When you create a profile, we collect:

  • Name
  • Email address (optional)
  • Phone number (optional)
  • Profile photo (optional)
  • Bio and professional information (optional)
  • Social media links (optional)

2. Calendar Information

With your permission, we access your calendar to detect the event you're currently attending. We only read events within a 6-day window (3 days before to 3 days after the current date) to identify ongoing meetings, conferences, or networking events.

We do NOT:

  • Access your entire calendar history
  • Store calendar data on our servers
  • Share calendar information with third parties

3. Location Information

With your permission, we collect your current GPS location to provide venue names and geographic context for contact exchanges. Location data is captured only at the moment of exchange and is not continuously tracked.

4. Contacts and Exchange Data

We store information about contacts you exchange with, including:

  • Contact profile information (as shared by the other user)
  • Exchange timestamp
  • Event context (event name, location)
  • Optional bilateral selfie (if both parties approve)

5. Bluetooth

We use Bluetooth for peer-to-peer contact exchange functionality. Bluetooth is used only for local device-to-device communication and does not transmit data to our servers.

6. Camera

With your permission, we access your camera for:

  • Scanning QR codes for contact exchange
  • Taking profile photos
  • Taking bilateral selfies during exchanges (optional)

How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

  • Facilitate contact exchanges between users
  • Provide context-aware information (event names, locations) for exchanges
  • Display your profile to other users during bilateral exchanges
  • Store your contacts locally on your device
  • Enable profile presets for different networking contexts

Data Storage and Security

Local-First Architecture

All your data is stored locally on your device. ConnectX uses a local-first architecture:

  • Your profile, contacts, and exchange history are stored only on your device
  • We do not sync your data to cloud servers
  • If you delete the app, all local data is permanently removed

Real-Time Exchange Data

During active exchanges, profile information is temporarily transmitted through our servers via secure WebSocket connections to enable real-time bilateral approval. This data is not stored on our servers after the exchange session ends.

Image Uploads

Profile photos and bilateral selfies are uploaded to our secure cloud storage and are accessible only via unique URLs. Images are stored for the lifetime of the contacts they're associated with.

Security Measures

We implement industry-standard security measures including:

  • End-to-end encryption for WebSocket communications
  • Secure HTTPS connections for all API requests
  • Authentication tokens for API access
  • No storage of sensitive data on our servers

Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties.

Data is only shared in the following contexts:

  • With other users: Profile information you choose to share during bilateral exchanges (based on your active preset)
  • Service providers: We use cloud infrastructure providers (hosting, image storage) who are bound by strict data protection agreements
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights

Your Privacy Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access: View all data stored in the app through the profile and contacts screens
  • Delete: Remove individual contacts or your entire profile at any time
  • Control: Choose which profile information to share using presets (conference, business, networking, minimal)
  • Revoke permissions: Disable calendar, location, camera, or Bluetooth access in device settings
  • Export: Currently not available in MVP, planned for future releases

Children's Privacy

ConnectX is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
